THE SPACE IS STILL HERE, SO WHERE DID EVERYBODY GO?

Role: Director, Researcher, Interviewer, Creative Producer
Status: In production, Fall 2026. Not completed or released.
An experimental documentary exploring the transformation of queer nightlife in New York City, particularly around Ridgewood and Bushwick. The project examines gentrification, rising costs, cultural displacement, accessibility, and the commercialization of queer spaces. Rather than treating one venue or community as the villain, the film asks how queer nightlife itself participates in larger economic and cultural changes.
Through interviews with performers, nightlife workers, organizers, and community members, alongside footage of venues and surrounding neighborhoods, the documentary investigates who can afford to participate in queer nightlife, whose histories are preserved, and who gets left behind. The project also considers contradictions within queer gentrification, including shifting relationships between gay, lesbian, trans, and drag communities.
My approach combines documentary research, interviews, location footage, and my own perspective as a queer nightlife performer. Documentation will be added as production media becomes available.
